Investigation Overview
September 10, 2015 (Shareholders Foundation) - An investigation on behalf of investors of United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) shares over potential securities laws violations by United Continental Holdings and certain of its directors and officers in connection certain financial statements was announced.
The investigation by a law firm focuses on possible claims on behalf of purchasers of the securities of United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) concerning whether a series of statements by United Continental Holdings Inc regarding its business, its prospects and its operations were materially false and misleading at the time they were made.
United Continental Holdings Inc reported that its annual Total Revenue rose from over $37.15 billion in 2012 to over $38.9 billion in 2014 and that its Net Loss of $723 million in 2012 turned to a Net Income of over $1.13 billion in 2014.
Shares of United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) grew from $17.78 per share in August 2012 to as high as $73.10 per share in January 2015.
In February 2015, United Continental Holdings Inc learned of a federal probe into its relationship with David Samson, a former chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (the 'Port Authority').
News reports have said that the probe focused on whether United Continental Holdings Inc added a direct flight between Newark, New Jersey and Columbia, South Carolina, to accommodate Samson, who has a summer home in Columbia. The route was canceled shortly after Samson resigned last year. United Continental Holdings Inc , the dominant airline at Newark Liberty International Airport, was negotiating with the Port Authority over projects at the airport at the same time.
On September 8, 2015, United Continental Holdings Inc announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Smisek, and two other top executives were leaving the company in connection with internal and federal investigations associated with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
